About DAYMOON
Led by Portugal-resident German multi-instrumentalist Fred Lessing, transgressive non-dance combo DAYMOON aims to delight the world with an incoherent concoction of music from the across the past four millennia, or so. The band started out in the early 1980s under the lame moniker of Dead Landscape, and eventually disbanded in 1984 as their kind of music was not in demand in the Portuguese music market at the time. Fred and friends went on to record four demo albums, that never got recorded properly though. Finally, a new live version of the band emerged in 2008 to perform among others at the widely regarded Gouveia Art Rock festival in 2009.
Since then, the band has released five studio albums:
ALL TOMORROWS
(2011). Post-produced and mastered by Andy Tillison of The Tangent and PO90.
Released on now-defunct Russian prog label Mals.
FABRIC OF SPACE DIVINE (2013). Scientific-philosophical concept
album released again on Mals.
CRUZ QUEBRADA (2016). Cancer fund-raiser,
autobiographical. Released on
German label Progressive Promotion Records.
EROSION (2021). Social and heavily political concoctions, mixed
and mastered by Vince Welch of US prog act Bent Knee. Self-released.
WEDNESDAY (2026). No-frills no-drums eclectic delight. Released on
Dutch label
OOB Records.
What some people wrote about Daymoon:
Alain Bourguignon (Plus PROG de Vous): 'Fizzy as a fine sparkling wine'
Jon Neudorf (Sea of Tranquility): 'Erosion is a thoughtful and deeply
creative work; an example of just how good prog rock can be. Highly
recommended.' (4.5 out of 5 stars)
houseofprog.com: 'Probably my album of the year so far, an album that will
forever remain within easy arm’s length from the turntable' (95%)
Nick Hudson (Progarchives.com) 'I find it (Erosion) not only my favourite Daymoon release, but one of my favourite albums of 2022.' (4 out of 5 stars)
Prog magazine: 'Fabric Of Space Divine makes Yes' makes Tales From Topographic Oceans sound like easy listening. The market for their work may be limited to open-minded physicists, but Daymoon's brave creativity should be applauded.'
Eclipsed magazine: 'Consistently defies categorisation. Classic prog motifs meet folklore or snippets of dialogue, along with dissonant sounds reminiscent of Zappa albums, but there are also plenty of catchy moments. Fascinating, because extremely unorthodox.'
